The question is simple.  Would you do this journey if you did not have any family? If this responsibility was solely yours?  If the answer is “Yes” than accept and move on.

This was ultimately my journey and I am stronger, more compassionate and the winner.  No regrets.

In time some family members may get on board.  It never hurts to ask and make it clear there is space for them in this journey but don’t hold your breath.  This is your choice.

My story includes my father who was trying inadequately to care for my Mother. My brother who never ever blocked any of my decisions for which I am grateful. And my Down’s Syndrome sister that over time developed a beautiful new relationship with Mom.  Was I angry yes, was I sad yes, did my Dad agree with everything I did for Mom before he passed, YES.  Are my brother and I still close, YES.  Am I impressed by my sister? YES!

My word for this part is, “Accept”.  Move forward to do what you believe is the right thing with conviction.  This is your journey.
