There is lots of evidence to suggest when you can’t reach someone to try music. Mom made the effort to reach out to us with music. There was the whistling year. She whistled from dawn ‘till dusk. Drove my Dad nuts until the day it stopped.
She would often direct the music with her index figure, smiling, always smiling. Maybe pausing long enough to yodel! Later when whistling was no longer possible she loved the Andrea Rieu videos of Strauss Waltzes, she loved going to the seniors’ dance and in general she loved the sound of music. A relative in Austria sent a few CD’s of music from her childhood. The team would search songs on their I pads and we all tried an online yodeling class! Mom was still influencing us in her final months.
Fresh air and music helped her thru her last year. She was out in the garden the day before she passed, listening to Andrea Bocelli and Placido Domingo and feeling the spring sunshine on her face. She died the next day with a little suntan on her cheeks, May 24th, 2018.
It’s so nice to read the beautiful stories and experiences of others.. and to share my own.
